Adapting four decades of Sesame-style learning for today’s classrooms.
COMING SOON — When Sesame Street first aired in 1969, the majority of preschoolers spent their days at home. Now many 3- to 5-year-olds are in child care or preschool. To bring the advantages of early children's education to American kids in this new era, we’re translating Sesame Street for classrooms and child-care settings. We call it Sesame Learning.
Our curriculum, now in development, puts an interactive twist on our tried-and-true approach: teaching ABCs, 123s, healthy behavior, and social inclusiveness to children working together with teachers, in groups, and on their own. The program will employ a wide range of educational tools from crayons and paper to tablet PCs and whiteboards, along with plenty of playtime.
Sesame Learning is an experiment in progress, true to our heritage as a media workshop. Initial testing began in a handful of classrooms in Denver and New York City this summer.
