Matt Vogel

Matt Vogel was inspired as a child growing up the 1970s by the creativity and imagination of Sesame Street and Jim Henson’s Muppets™.  He built and performed his own collection of puppet characters as a kid in the early 1980s, and ended up performing various pigs, chickens, monsters, and a range of other characters on Sesame Street starting in 1996.  Vogel is the understudy for Big Bird and has played The Count since 2013.  He is the Puppet Captain on Sesame Street and is part of its Emmy Award-winning directing team.  Vogel is one of the core Disney Muppet™ performers and currently plays Kermit the Frog and various other characters. He starred in the ABC series The Muppets (as Uncle Deadly, etc.), the 2014 film Muppets Most Wanted (as Constantine, etc.), and the 2011 film The Muppets (as ‘80s Robot, etc.). Other productions include work in the films Alice Through the Looking Glass (Wilkins), I Am Big Bird, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, and on television in The Muppets Letters to Santa, 30 Rock, Jack’s Big Music Show, Oobi, Blue’s Room, Bear in the Big Blue House, Between the Lions, The Puzzle Place, Big Bag, and HBO’s Oz.

Vogel has a BFA in Theatre from The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University in St. Louis.  He lives outside New York City with his wife and their five children.
