Sesame Workshop and Night & Day Studios Team Up to Release Peekaboo Sesame Street App
November 14, 2013 – Portland, OR. Five years after Peekaboo Barn first made a splash as an instant hit app for toddlers, comes a new Peekaboo app that is bound to make big waves. Night & Day Studios and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization, have teamed up to produce Peekaboo Sesame Street for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The app makes its debut today in the App Store at a special launch price of $.99 (regularly $2.99).
The app begins with a stroll down Sesame Street and stops at the 123 brownstone where several of everyone’s favorite Sesame Street characters are waiting behind the bouncing doors ready to surprise and delight little ones. Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Abby Cadabby and more familiar faces introduce themselves and their favorite objects, such as a rubber ducky, fish and book. Oscar even pops up from his trashcan to say hello! The app also includes tips for parents and caregivers to help them extend the learning while their child plays with the app and afterwards.
Night & Day Studios CEO Nat Sims shares his excitement about the app, “I’m a child of the 70s who grew up on Sesame Street. Not only did it make me a smarter and happier child, but it was part of what inspired me to create my own children’s media company when I grew up. I’m thrilled to be working with the Sesame team, combining their work with my own creation, Peekaboo Barn!”
“We are thrilled to partner with Night & Day to bring their engaging and bestselling Peekaboo series to the youngest segment of the Sesame Street audience,” said Jennifer A. Perry, Vice President, Worldwide Publishing. “In marrying the Peekaboo play pattern with our uniquely beloved characters Peekaboo Sesame Street is an age-appropriate way for young learners to interact with touch screens and to start building literacy skills.”
Sesame Street’s 44th season is currently airing and Peekaboo Barn has now been played over 60 million times worldwide.
