Bert and Ernie Buddy Cakes Celebrate Bert's birthday with Bert and Ernie cake faces. by Dina Anastasio

	What you need:
	Two round cakes Vanilla icing Orange and yellow food coloring One package of black licorice Half an orange Four dried apricots One red gumdrop

1. Using your favorite layer cake recipe, bake two round cakes.

2. Make or buy vanilla icing. Put a few tablespoons off to the side to be used for the Muppets' eyes.

3. Divide the rest of the icing into two bowls. Add orange food coloring to one bowl and yellow coloring to the other.

4. To make Bert's face, frost one cake with yellow frosting. Add licorice hair and one long eyebrow.

5. Use half the white vanilla icing to make Bert's eyes. Add licorice dots for pupils, a small scooped-out orange-half for a nose, and dried apricots for ears. Bend another licorice strand into a smile.

6. To make Ernie's face, frost the other cake with orange icing. Use the rest of the white vanilla icing to make Ernie's eyes, then add licorice hair and pupils, a red gumdrop nose, a licorice smile, and dried apricot ears.

7. Dig in! Yum, yum.
