Animal Tracking

What animal prints can you spy in this outdoor activity?
by Dina Anastasio

What you need:

  • Aluminum foil
  • Sand or potting soil
  • Small piece of bread (optional)

1. On your next outdoor walk, take along a large piece of aluminum foil and a small bag of sand or potting soil.

2. When you enter the woods, lay the foil on the ground, away from the path. Spread a thin layer of sand or soil on the foil. You might want to leave a bit of animal-friendly food, like a small piece of bread, in the center of the sand as a lure.

3. Continue with your walk. On the way back, see if any animals have left tracks in the sand, and if so try to identify them.
