Solo Cup Company, a leading provider of disposable foodservice products, has signed a licensing agreement with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, to create a line of vibrant, kid-friendly paper plates, bowls and cups. Expected to hit store shelves this May, the products provide parents with the opportunity to bring the beloved characters from Sesame Street to the family table every day.

Each package of durable cups, bowls and plates features assorted Sesame Street designs, encouraging learning and increased parent/child interaction during mealtime. Elmo, everyone’s favorite furry red monster, appears throughout the product line.

“There is a natural synergy between Sesame Street and Solo because of the trust consumers place in both brands,” said Steve Jungmann, Solo Cup Company senior vice president of consumer sales and marketing. “Working together, we have created a new way for kids and parents to enhance the quality of their time together.”

The product roll-out will be supported by a national cents-off FSI, an interactive brand web site, in-store floor displays, shelf signs and print advertising. Solo is expecting these new products to help grow the kids segment in disposable plates and cups.

The Sesame Street line will offer the following family-friendly products:

  •  Sesame Street 9 in. Paper Plates: These greaseproof, cut-resistant plates feature educational alphabet, numbers, colors and shapes designs to encourage learning during mealtime.
  • Sesame Street 12 oz. Paper Bowls: These microwaveable bowls are specially designed to prevent spills and display the colorful cast of characters from Sesame Street.
  • Sesame Street 9 oz. Paper Cups: Combining cup, lid and straw - providing a perfect transition from a sippy cup.
  • Sesame Street 5 oz. Cups: Complete with free cup holder, these small drink cups are a fun way to encourage healthy teeth brushing habits.
