SESAME WORKSHOP LAUNCHES FIRST-EVER SESAME STREET VIDEO PODCAST BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 18
For the very first time, Sesame Street fans can download a weekly video podcast based on the award-winning preschool series when Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization, introduces the Sesame Street Podcast! Beginning September 18, fans can go to www.sesameworkshop.org/podcasts or the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com) to download your free podcast featuring Elmo, Big Bird, Oscar and everyone’s favorite Sesame Street Muppets, along with A-list celebrities including Jon Stewart, Matt Lauer, Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Brown.
All of the episodes are free, easy to use and are designed to educate and entertain audiences of all ages. Viewers can sign-up to have the five minute weekly podcast automatically delivered to their video enabled iPods or other portable media players. Parents can conveniently turn any moment into a fun learning experience no matter where they are!
Each five minute episode – newly created for the podcast – will feature scenes from current and past Sesame Street seasons as well as animation and live action films. In keeping with Sesame Street’s focus on literacy and vocabulary for its current 38th season, the first podcast episodes will feature the new “What's the Word on the Street?" segments in which people and animals introduce and define the week’s "Word on the Street." To help reinforce language development, 26 new words, such as "tricycle," "predicament," and "squid," are featured to expand a child’s vocabulary and give them the tools to strengthen their literacy skills.
“The podcast exemplifies how Sesame Workshop continues to use the power of modern media as a way to enhance a child’s learning experience,” adds Gary E. Knell, President and CEO, Sesame Workshop. “We’re excited that the podcast offers families yet another opportunity for learning with an easy to use format sure to please parents and caregivers.”
“In previous research, Sesame Workshop has learned that parents are eager to have portable educational media content that they can use with their young children at any time and wherever they might be - helping to fill time on a car ride or while waiting in line at the grocery store while building children's literacy skills at the same time,” added Glenda Revelle, Ph.D., Vice President for Research/Creative Development and Digital Media at Sesame Workshop.
