Galli Galli Sim Sim Offers Bi-lingual Series To Kids This Summer On POGO

Teaches Kids English Alphabets, Hit with young hearts - reaches 11 million and counting

New Delhi, May 22, 2007

Programming on the ever-popular kids’ channel, POGO, just became more exciting, with the launch of a 30 episode summer special series of the popular preschool show, Galli Galli Sim Sim. For the first time in India, and as part of the series’ continuing commitment to enhance and strengthen the content, POGO will launch GGSS in two languages, teaching kids both English and Hindi. The summer special will debut on May 22, 2007 at 2 p.m. on POGO. Catering to the viewing needs of the English speaking audience, this special series of Galli Galli Sim Sim will air in English in South India, while in the rest of the country the show will continue to be available in Hindi, but will now teach kids English alphabets as well.

The summer special series of Galli Galli Sim Sim, in its new format, promises to be more interactive as the adorable Muppets - Chamki, Googly, Boombah and Aanchoo become the hosts of the show and take kids through a half-hour journey. There will be one “English Letter of the Day” that will be taught to young audiences with an interactive and fun-filled approach. The series continues to promote learning through the specially-designed curriculum, focusing on cognition, language, emotional development and social skills. An English version of the foot-tapping title track has been specially created for the audiences in South India.

The excitement doesn’t end here! Post summer vacations, kids can now carry home or to school, their  favourite Galli Galli Sim Sim Muppets. Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE), the global licensing and merchandising division of Cartoon Network, is launching a whole new range of exciting school products for kids called, Galli Galli Sim Sim Back to school range. The range of products being launched include, school bags, stationery kits, story books, soft toys, apparel for girls and boys and home furnishings, available at affordable prices at select stores such as Pantaloon, Lifestyle, Piramyd, Landmark, Hypercity and Lilliput.

Ever since its launch in August 2006, this revolutionary educational series, has managed to create a record of being India’s first preschool show to reach and positively impact the lives of over 11 million kids across the country (TAM, All SECs, All India, 4-9 audience). The adorable Muppets have cast a positive spell on young hearts, imparting basic life skills such as cognitive, social and emotional development, essential for a balanced upbringing of the child. The show addresses topics such as early childhood education, creative thinking and reasoning, family and community life, healthy habits, appreciating cultural plurality. Galli Galli Sim Sim is the Indian version of the world-renowned children’s television series, Sesame Street, and is aired on Cartoon Network, POGO and Doordarshan. This multi media educational initiative by Turner India and nonprofit educational organization, Sesame Workshop along with production partners, Miditech, introduces a unique concept of using mass media to promote joyful learning. Targeted towards children between the age groups of two to six years, their families, parents and caregivers, Galli Galli Sim Sim transcends socio-economic barriers and features lovable Muppets, animated segments and live-action films, with music, stories and art drawn from various elements of Indian culture and regions of the country.

The uniqueness of Galli Galli Sim Sim lies in its 360-degree approach of combining the power of television and on-ground initiatives in imparting education to children. With a view to reaching thousands of young children without regular access to television, Sesame Workshop India, the nonprofit educational organization behind Galli Galli Sim Sim has initiated mobile viewing programmes—bringing the series to local communities via a portable screen and a specially developed bio-scope. The initiative is estimated to reach over 1.5 million children and caregivers over the next five years.
