RRUGA SESAM AND ULICA SEZAM, BELOVED CHILDREN’S SERIES ON RTK, RETURNS TO KOSOVO WITH MORE LAUGHTER & FUN ADVENTURES
Pristina, KOSOVO, and New York, NY, April 10, 2006
Whether you’re learning to read or exploring new adventures, the educational experience just got more furry and fun! Production for season two of Rruga Sesam (Albanian language) and Ulica Sezam (Serbian language), the engaging television series that addresses the educational needs of children and encourages respect and understanding, has begun. Like the previous season, the 26 episodes of the new series, which is comprised of material from Sesame Street’s international library, will include new live action films being produced in Kosovo this month. These segments will feature children from various ethnic groups, providing a window into Kosovo’s rich diversity.
Rruga Sesam and Ulica Sezam, a 30-minute series, will be broadcast throughout Kosovo on RTK and regionally by three Serbian language broadcasters, DTV, TV Most Zvecan and TV Herc Strpce in 2006. Season two sees the return of Elmo, Cookie Monster, Bert, Ernie and the rest of the Sesame friends as they share in more laughter and adventures.
This month, CMB Productions and Link Productions, will begin taping the 26 new live action films which will present daily life stories of children from Kosovo. The films will depict Albanian, Serbian, Bosnian and Roma communities living throughout Kosovo. The film topics are based on an educational curriculum developed by Kosovo Albanian and Kosovo Serbian educators in consultation with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind the award-winning children’s series Sesame Street
Viewers and their caregivers can also look forward to new Muppet and animation segments tailored to enhance important educational skills for children ages three to six, and the production of two new storybooks and a facilitator guide for teachers as part of the program’s Outreach initiative developed in collaboration with UNICEF. These materials will be distributed free of charge. The producers plan to commission an in-depth caregiver/child assessment to measure the series’ impact some time next year.
Rruga Sesam and Ulica Sezam are made possible by the generous support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida).
The series are produced by Sesame Workshop. Rruga Sesam and Ulica Sezam, which debuted in November 2004, provides preschool children with critical early education skills and promotes respect and understanding among Albanian, Serbian, and other ethnic minority children living throughout Kosovo.
