New Season of Plaza Sesamo Debuts
The new season of Plaza Sesamo starts today on Televisa’s Channel 5. The beloved children’s series, which has been airing in Mexico for 38 years, returns with a new format and look, but remains unmistakenly Plaza Sesamo! Produced by Javier Williams in co-production with the Sesame Workshop’s team led by Lorenzo Dunoyer, this new season is full of surprises.
Aimed at preschool-aged children, Plaza Sesamo remains loyal to its mission of delivering quality entertainment while providing children with the right tools for development through fun and interesting shows. This season’s emphasis is on conflict resolution. As children start to learn to interact with others, they learn to share and that they don’t have to be in agreement all the time. With the help of Muppets Pancho, Lola and Abelardo, Plaza Sesamo shows children that it is normal to have differences. The important thing is to accept those differences.
In addition, there will be segments that revolve around basic skills such as numbers, simple math, letters and knowledge for preschoolers.
Plaza Sesamo continues to evolve to meet the contemporary tastes of kids in Latin America. The ”plaza” itself received a renovation and now looks warmer and inviting. The format of the show is also different with a specific theme that flows throughout each segment. In each show, a letter, a number, or a concept is introduced and repeated throughout the whole 30-minute episode.
Kids will immediately notice two new things about the new season. First Gaby, a new girl Muppet is introduced. She is quite curious, a tad shy and has great musical abilities. Viewers will find her playing often with Lola, Pancho and Abelardo. In addition, Abelardo gets a big surprise. When the season starts, he decides that if all birds have a nest then he must have his own. He enlists the help of everybody in the plaza and finally viewers get to see where he sleeps, keeps his things, and plays with his friends. Abelardo’s nest will surely enhance the imagination of our viewers.
New animations, fresh music, a dynamic editing style, and children from around Latin America who share their stories complete the collection of changes that will make this new season of Plaza Sesamo perfect for a new generation of children.
The new season also includes a star-studded cast—a group that has been on the show in past seasons. Evita Muñóz “Chachita”, Sergio Corona, Mariana Garza, Benjamín Rivero and Mariana Sánchez, as well as the children Sarai Meza, Bernardo Flores and Ivanna Hawayek play human characters that live on Plaza Sesamo. The show also includes an experienced Muppeteering team led by Rocío Lara, Hector Loeza, Alfonso Soto, Mary Paz García, Verenice Callejo, Diego Monsivaís, Carlos Villalpando Martello, José Luis Arévalo, and Eduardo de Juanbelz.
Keeping with the tradition of the last few seasons, this one also includes special guests and their fun antics, with celebrities like Yordi Rosado, Valentino Lanús, Diego Torres, David Bisbal, Eduardo Santamarina, Carlos Espejel, Mauricio Herrera, Andrea Legarreta, Jacqueline Bracamontes, Julio Bracho, Adrián Uribe, Omar Chaparro, Miguel Hoffman, Toño de Valdés, Paty Manterola y Patricio Borguetti, as well as songs recorded specially for this season with Playa Limbo and Erik Rubín.
The new season of Plaza Sesamo is a co-production between Televisa, Sesame Workshop, and Discovery Kids, with the support of Telefutura, and starts airing in Mexico through Channel 5, September 20 at 7:15 a.m.
