Freelance Research Assistant

Field Research
Assist lead researchers in data collection and analysis for field studies planned in 2012. Data collection tasks include administrative tasks such as:

  • managing permissions slips/consent forms
  • scheduling interviews/observations
  • managing field instruments and equipment
  • conducting ethnographic data collection (e.g., interviews, observation, and artifact collection)
  • organizing and inventorying data

Data analysis tasks include:

  • inputting data
  • transcribing interviews
  • coding data (e.g., video)
  • performing statistical analyses
  • other tasks as they arise

Writing and Editorial

  • Conducting background research and drafting text for literature reviews
  • Writing blog posts and other promotional material about JGCC research
  • Prepping documents for publication, including proofreading reports, web copy, and other content
  • Other tasks as they arise

Technical

  • Taping, processing, and uploading video for web and other purposes
  • Creating and managing websites using WYSIWYG/blogging software
  • Basic desktop publishing skills to produce documents to share with external partners

Meeting Planning Coordinate details for various board meetings and research-related workshops planned for 2012, including drafting and sending out invitations, handling RSVPs, requesting materials/information from participants, preparing meeting materials, making catering and technical arrangements, preparing guest lists for security, uploading information to meeting websites, taking notes, making electronic recordings of proceedings (audio, video), preparing notes for participants, soliciting feedback on meetings from participants, and other duties as required.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Education, Psychology, Child Development, Learning Sciences, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Field research experience with young children, including conducting interviews, observations, logging data, transcribing data, and organizing/managing consent forms and other paperwork
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience proofreading and copy-editing
  • Tech savvy: Fluent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and proficient with Photoshop, blogging software (e.g., WordPress), and basic video editing software
  • Sense of humor and diplomatic skills
  • Must be attentive to details
  • Interest in and awareness of key issues in the children’s digital media industry
  • Able to function independently, work in a team environment, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
  • At least three years of professional work experience

Rate is negotiable, based on experience. Position requires ~15 hours/week. Hours are flexible.

Payroll Coordinator

Payroll-Finance

GENERAL PURPOSE FOR POSITION:  Process payroll for weekly union and non-union employees. Process month end reports for outside agencies as well as internal departments.

 

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist in various functions of payroll processing including entry of time, invoice, residuals, direct deposit, garnishments, new hire and termination information.

  • Calculation of pay adjustment due to status change.

  • Calculate paid time off and garnishments.

  • Answer employee requests and inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Filing and other payroll duties as necessary or assigned.

  • Prepare monthly union payroll report(s).

  • Prepare ad hoc reports and other financial department requests as needed.

  • Provide a high level of customer service and employee relation based on outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Attention to details making sure the payroll is processed accurately with sufficient back-up support including executed contract(s), properly approved time sheet, etc. 

  •  

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 1 – 3 years of payroll experience

    • Good communication skills both written and oral.

    • Proficient in Excel; Payroll software (preferably ADP or PeopleSoft), and Database reporting (preferably ADP Reporting or Report Smith).

Sesame Workshop is continuously seeking candidates for our temporary administrative assistant program to work on contract in all departments.

Our positions require that candidates have administrative experience supporting executives. In addition, the candidate should be extremely organized, detailed oriented, proactive, efficient and have the ability to juggle various job duties and every day work pressures.

General Functions:

Perform various administrative functions of a routine nature as well as:

  • Data Entry

  • Screening incoming telephone calls

  • Scheduling appointments

  • Drafting and completing memorandums and letters

  • PowerPoint presentations

  • Arranging domestic and international travel arrangements

  • Ability to work on projects with little supervision

  • Filing, faxing, copying etc.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Must be a team player

ONGOING: Internship Program

All Departments

Internship opportunities at Sesame Workshop provide full-time matriculated college students with hands-on learning directly related to their current academic studies.

Students will engage in everyday business tasks under the guidance of an assigned supervisor. The internship program will allow Sesame Workshop to support students in their career path, as well as help us to build strong relationships with neighboring colleges and universities. Students must show proof of enrollment to be considered, and they may receive school credit for their internships at Sesame Workshop. Students should also be able to commit to a minimum of 3 work days, unless otherwise noted. Interns will not be paid hourly wages or a salary, but are provided a travel/lunch stipend.
